Runshaw at 50: It's Official!
The college that we attend has turned 50 years old. Since its opening in 1974, it has been renown for the high grades of its pupils and their success.
For our Runshaw at 50 project, we aim to answer how our current staff and students see our current community at Runshaw College.
Our show will include a live podcast segment hosted by members of our studio team, pre-recorded interviews and reviews from both students and heads of department.
History
Established in 1974 with Fred Bleasdale at the helm, Runshaw college was initially only attended by leavers of Balshaw's High School and Parklands High in Chorley.
It gained a quick reputation for high grades and successful graduates and quickly expanded their scope to accept leavers from more schools.
The school saw the most of its growth in the mid 90's when a huge renovation project saw the college grow quickly to accommodate the numbers of students from all over Lancashire as its now nationally recognized reputation for excellence grew.

Bernard O'Connell
This was all under the leadership of Bernard O’Connell, a man recognized all across Britain for his impact on education at this very college, this earned him a knighthood. He held the head teacher position for 20 years exactly.
Some of the first areas to begin travelling for college were Blackburn, Wigan and Preston. Following this new demand and growth, awards and recognition followed, with the college with accolades like the Peoples Choice Awards and having strong links with the countries top universities including Oxford and Cambridge.
